Version 3.0.124 (September 27,
2010)
Auto-Play Suite (all programs):
- New Product Name: Up through release 2.3 (April 2008),
Auto-Play was named AutoPlay (without the dash). As
Microsoft has begun to refer to the new Windows behavior, introduced in
Windows XP Service Pack 2, as "AutoPlay", this product has subsequently
been renamed to Auto-Play to differentiate it from the built-in
Windows functionality.
- New Registration Keys: The registration keys for
Auto-Play have changed. Beginning with version 3.0 (build 124),
Auto-Play is using the Whirlpool
cryptographic hash algorithm to generate and check the registration key
validity. Users with a valid Auto-Play v2 or earlier license key
should contact the author to receive a new
v3 license key. The upgrade to v3 is free of charge.
- Updated Graphics Libraries:
- Updated the JPEG support library to the Independent
JPEG Group's JPEG software, Version 8b (May 16, 2010).
- Updated the PNG support library to libpng 1.4.3 (June
26, 2010). (Version 1.4.3 Copyright © 1998-2009 Glenn
Randers-Pehrson, et. al.)
- Updated the ZLIB support library to zlib 1.2.5 (April
19, 2010). (Version 1.2.5 Copyright © 1995-2010 Jean-loup Gailly
and Mark Adler.)
- Updated for Vista® and Windows 7®: This version of
Auto-Play has been tested on both Windows XP (32 bit) and Windows 7
(32 & 64 bit). Many changes/corrections were made to the underlying
code to secure Auto-Play and the other Auto-Play utilities from
possible buffer-overrun attacks.
- New Development Environment: This is the first release
of Auto-Play to be compiled with the MinGW
C/C++ compiler, using Eclipse CDT
as the IDE (Integrated Development Environment). The installation (MSI)
file was compiled with Windows
Installer XML (WiX) Toolkit.
Auto-Play (v3.0.124):
- Changed the behavior of the Legal Notice option to now
display Yes and No buttons. If the user clicks No,
Auto-Play will exit immediately. A Yes response will launch the
desired application/document.
- Added the alternative Legal Notice (End User License
Agreement) dialog box, which displays a scrollable RTF or text file,
and can also require that the user acknowledge that they have read and
understood the text and accept the terms described therein.
- A new EULA=filename
setting has been added to support this new option.
- Added the SimpleAccept
setting to modify the behavior of the EULA window (removing the requirement
to check the "I have read and understand ..." checkbox in order to enable
the "I Agree" button.)
- The Auto-Play window is now limited to 80% of the primary monitor size.
(Earlier releases would fail to display the Splash screen if the image was
too large for the screen).
- Auto-Play now uses the HALFTONE option when scaling images, resulting in
much more realistic images.
- Added new command-line parameters:
--dat filename
/D filename |
Read the Auto-Play Configuration options from the encoded
data file created with the Auto-Play Configuation Utility. |
--inf filename
/I filename |
Read the Auto-Play Configuration options from an alternative
AUTORUN.INF file. |
--log filename
/L filename |
Write a detailed log file, dumping the Auto-Play
Configuration options and execution results to this text file. (This
option should be used for debugging only - don't use this on a media
intended for distribution!) |
--test
/T |
Instructs Auto-Play to act like Windows, interpreting the
[AUTORUN] section of AUTORUN.INF (e.g. look to see if a --dat
... or --inf ... parameter has been defined in the SHELLEXECUTE=
or OPEN=... command) |
- Encrypted text in AUTORUN.INF has been depreciated.
These text strings can still be read, but are no longer supported in
the Auto-Play Configuration Utility.
- The TimeOption settings in AUTORUN.INF have been
depreciated. This feature was never supported by the Auto-Play
Configuration Utility.
- The Debug setting in AUTORUN.INF is ignored. This
function has been replaced with the --log filename
command line option.
Auto-Play Configuration Utility (v3.0.082):
- Added support (reading and writing) of the encoded data file
(AUTO-PLAY.DAT).
- Added support for the EULA option (as an alternative
form of the Legal Notice message).
- Added support for the SimpleAccept option, which
modifies the behavior of the EULA window in Auto-Play.
- Added a visual clue to show if the Registration key is valid or not.
- The Registration key field now automatically converts the entered text
to upper case.
- Removed the Debug checkbox, as this value is no longer
supported (see above).
- Removed the Encrypt Auto-Play Settings checkbox, as
this value has been depreciated. Auto-Play and the Auto-Play
Configuration Utility can still read legacy AUTORUN.INF files which
were encoded in this way, but writing of files with this encoding has
been eliminiated.
- Improved the readability of the commented AUTORUN.INF file
creation (using a new template for the file creation)
- If AUTORUN.INF exists, it will be saved as AUTORUN.BAK before
it is overwritten.
- Added as "Save..." button which immediately jumps to the Save
and Test page.
Auto-Play Menu Utility (v4.2.082):
- The handling of the Background image has been reworked.
When the image is stretched/shrunk to the APMenu window (the default
behavior) this is now done using the HALFTONE mode, so that the color
quality is considerably better.
- A new option TileBackground has been added.
- Setting this value to STRETCH or to 0 (zero)
will stretch/shrink the Background image in all three layouts.
(This is the default behavior from earlier APMenu releases).
- Setting this value to TILE or to 1 will create
"tiles" of the Background image until the available space is
filled.
- Setting this value to CENTER or to 2 will
center the Background image in the APMenu display.
- A bug which prevented APMenu from correctly interpreting the ButtonColor
and ClickColor values has been corrected.
- The ButtonColor and ClickColor items now support
a large number of color names in addition to the numeric #rrggbb
format.
Auto-Play Chain Launching Utility (v1.1.020):
- The Auto-Play installation now includes an APChain help file.
- Corrected the interpretation of the Waitn=
value:
- Previously, this value was interpreted as 1/10th of a second.
In the latest version, this has been corrected so that the value is
interpreted in seconds.
- Waitn=0 was previously interpreted as APChain
should wait until the associated Commandn= terminated
before moving on to the next command. With this release, Waitn=0
now implies NO wait. Entering a negative value (e.g. -1) is now used
to signify that APChain should wait for termination.

Version 1.3.028
(November 18, 1999)
Version 1.3.020
(October 12, 1999)
- Corrected the error message display when the selected document
can't be opened.
- The VIEWER= value is now post-processed to correctly handle
names containing spaces (but be sure to enclose the value in TWO sets
of double-quotes!), and to allow applications with 'fixed' parameters
to be called, e.g. "rundll32.exe amovie.ocx,RunDll /play /close"

Version 1.3.007
(August 23, 1999)
- Changed the default Document= and Viewer= to null. If both
values are empty, AutoPlay just shows the 'splash' screen, plays the
music (if defined), and exits after 5 (or MusicLen) seconds.

Version 1.22 (March
8, 1999)
- If the document couldn't be launched, only the windows error
text was displayed. Now, there is a friendlier message "Cannot AutoPlay
the document xxx.yyy", followed by the Windows error message.
- The Windows error messages have been moved out of the source
code and put into the resource file.
- There is now an OEM option available – if you register a
commercial license, we will provide you with an OEM version, with your
Copyright message hard-coded into the program. In addition, the default
splash picture will be removed (resulting in a 34Kb executable file
size), or can be replaced with a customer-provided WMF, EMF or BMP
file.
