What is CBText?

What is CBText?

CBText is a utility for Windows 9x/Me/NT/2000/XP that will reduce the contents of the Windows Clipboard to plain text (if possible).

Why CBText?

Many Windows applications place formated text in the Clipboard, while all you wanted was the plain text. When pasting the clipboard contents into another application, you either have to use the "Paste Special..." command, or reformat the text again. With CBText, a simple double-click on the taskbar symbol will reduce the clipboard contents to plain text, so that the Paste command will paste the text only.

Installing CBText

Installing CBText

  1. Download the cbtext40.msi file from http://www.informatics-consulting.ch/software/cbtext40.msi (Switzerland) or
    http://www.informatics-consulting.ch/software/cbtext40.msi (Germany)
and store it into a temporary directory, e.g. C:\TEMP

  2. Double-click on the cbtext40.msi file to install CBText.

Using CBText

Using CBText

Start CBText ( Start | All Programs | Greene Informatics Consulting | CBText 4.0 ).

The unregistered shareware version will display the reminder screen (see below). If you agree with the conditions, just press the Yes, I Agree button to open the main screen. Then select the command Goto Tray to hide the main window.

When you have placed some information in the clipboard, and would like to remove any formatting from the text, just double-click on the CBText symbol in the system tray (next to the clock).

If you right-click on the CBText tray symbol, there are several options available on the pop-up menu, including:

  • Reduce to Text
  • Empty Clipboard
  • Open Main Window
  • About CBText
  • Exit

Options available when CBText is registered:

  • The reminder screen is replaced with an "splash" window that closes automatically after a few seconds.
  • There is an option to have CBText start automatically when Windows starts.
  • There is an option to have CBText start minimised.
  • There is an option to have CBText convert the clipboard contents automatically whenever text is copied.
  • You will receive an alternative version that is only 96KB large (you must have MFC71.DLL installed on your computer - most people do!)

Known Issues and Limitations

Known Issues and Limitations

If the clipboard contains an image another non-text format, the Reduce to Text option is disabled. The only thing that CBText can do is empty the Clipboard.
